In March 2020, the “World Health Organization” (WHO) declared the CoViD-19 outbreak a pandemic. This disease affects each individual differently. Most infected people develop mild to moderate symptoms and recover without hospitalisation. The most common symptoms include fever, cough, tiredness, and loss of smell or taste. Other possible symptoms include sore throat, headache, and diarrhea, among others. Complications from CoViD-19 are associated with severe episodes of fever and pneumonia, which may lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). - SARS CoV- 2 Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). SARS-CoV-2 (from “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2”) is a type 2 virus of the SARS species, belonging to the family Coronaviridae, genus Betacoronavirus, and subgenus Sarbecovirus. It was responsible for the coronavirus disease that emerged in China in 2019 and caused a devastating global pandemic in 2020-2021. It is transmitted through the air and is highly infectious. The infection tends to be more severe in older adults, individuals with obesity, or people with weakened immune systems. It can also be more serious in those with pre-existing conditions such as cardiovascular, respiratory, or kidney diseases, cancer, or diabetes. - Remdesivir An antiviral drug effective against various RNA viruses, including coronaviruses (such as MERS and SARS).
